Wimbledon semifinals or stag do? Top Spanish tennis player forced to make the choice

A top Spanish tennis player has been forced to cancel his stag-do after he unexpectedly made it into the Wimbledon semi finals.

Roberto Bautista Agut, ranked number 22 in the world, was due to fly to Ibiza this weekend to join six of his best friends for his pre-wedding party which he had organised over the Championship’s second weekend.

However Bautista Agut yesterday beat Argentinian opponent Guido Pella, landing him a place in the semi finals against defending champion Novak Djokovic – and throwing his stag-do plans up in the air.

The top seeded player is believed to have not fancied his chances of getting this far in the British grand slam.

His fiancee Ana Bodi Tortosa, who is reportedly a former beauty queen pageant, was watching from the stands on No.1 Court as her husband-to-be stormed to victory.

The couple, who will marry in November, are understood to have known each other since they were teenagers.

Miss Tortosa is even missing a wedding dress fitting in Madrid tomorrow to stay in London to support Bauista Agut, it is understood.

“I had planned to be in Ibiza right now,” Bauista Agut said after his match. “We had everything organized already. My friends, six of them, are all there.

“Well, it feels better to be here in London.”

His friends are due to fly into London on Friday, he said, leading to speculation that the stag do could be swapping the party island of Ibiza for the freshly cut lawns in SW19 to celebrate his impending marriage.

“I will get married in November – if everything works well,” he said with a smile.

Commenting on the match he had not planned to win, Bauista Agut said: “I think today it was a good opportunity for us, for both of us, to play each other and get the chance to play the semifinal.

“It was a really, really tough match. Guido really played amazing tennis. It was not easy to manage all the emotions and get through all of them to win the match.”
